Autumn I Term: September 14 – October 22, 2026 (6 weeks)
We are offering an additional Intro to Japanese Language and Culture I on Monday from September 28 – November 2, 2026 (6 weeks)
$190 Early Bird Special – Members/Continuing Students (valid until WED 9/9 & WED 9/23 for Intro I MON class)
$205 – Members/Continuing Students (After WED 9/9 & WED 9/23 for Intro I MON class)
$215 Early Bird Special – New Students (Valid until WED 9/9 & WED 9/23 for Intro I MON class)
$230 – New Students (After WED 9/9 & WED 9/23 for Intro I MON class)
Customized Japanese language classes are available to all Silver, Gold, and Platinum corporate members at a reduced corporate rate, pending instructor availability.

All classes will be held virtually via ZOOM.
All classes are tailored to the level of expertise and type of study required by students. Weekly lessons provide students with an opportunity to begin the study of Japanese or to sharpen previously acquired skills. Writing, reading and speaking skills will be covered in all class levels.
Class Payment/Class Cancellation:
In order to be registered for the class pre-payment must be received prior to the first class. If minimum class size is not met, the Society has the right to cancel class level. All students will receive a full refund. Students are eligible to receive a full refund if they contact the Society 24 hours after the first class. Unfortunately refunds will not be issued after 24 hours.
Please be reminded that class registration fee is for one student only. If there are multiple students who are interested in taking our classes, please register each student separately. Society has the right to cancel a student’s registration at any time.
Textbooks:
Students will receive a syllabus and class materials by email prior to the first day of class. Students in all Intermediate level classes are required to purchase all textbooks, workbooks and additional books via Amazon.com.
Students registering for the Intro to Japanese Language & Culture I, II, all beginning level classes and the fluent frontiers class will receive class material via email prior to the first class. Purchase of books is not required.
All intermediate level classes are required to purchase the Japanese For Busy People Vol. II (4th edition) textbook and workbook.

Intro to Japanese Language and Culture I
(Tuesdays 7:30-9:30 pm)
New to Japanese? This six-week course for adult learners covers the essentials: greetings and self-introductions, numbers and money, likes and dislikes, shopping, and navigating real-life situations like reading a train schedule and finding your way to the airport. Along the way, you’ll learn to read and write hiragana and pick up cultural insights — from bowing etiquette to the art of exchanging business cards.
No prior knowledge of Japanese required.
Materials: Various handouts will be provided.
Intro to Japanese Language and Culture I – Monday Session

Intro to Japanese Language and Culture II
(Thursdays 7:30-9:30 pm)
This course builds on the foundations established in Japanese Language & Culture I, continuing students’ exploration of both the Japanese language and the rich cultural traditions that shape it. Learners will expand their vocabulary, deepen their understanding of grammar structures, and further develop their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Alongside language study, students will broaden their knowledge of Japanese customs, arts, history, and contemporary society. By the end of the course, students will feel more confident navigating everyday situations in Japanese — whether in the classroom or on the streets of Tokyo.

Everyday Japanese I
(Mondays 7:30-9:30 pm)
Ready to take your Japanese to the next level? Everyday Japanese I picks up where Intro to Japanese Language & Culture I & II left off, helping you turn foundational grammar into real conversations. Using Irodori: Japanese for Life in Japan, a free course text developed by the Japan Foundation, you’ll learn to talk about who you are, chat about the seasons and weather. and proudly show off your neighborhood – all in Japanese. Along the way, you’ll pick up cultural insights that bring the language to life. Whether you’re planning a trip to Japan, connecting with Japanese friends and family, or simply love a good language challenge, this course will have you speaking with more confidence, one everyday conversation at a time.

Intermediate III
(Wednesday 7:30-9:30 pm)
A continuation of Intermediate II, this class will provide a forum for basic Japanese conversation between students and instructor as well as for more advanced kanji. Topics of conversation will be determined by the instructor, along with various reading assignments.
Materials: Worksheet(s) and Textbooks: Japanese For Busy People, Vol. II (4th edition), and Workbook Vol. II (4th edition).
The Fluent Frontier
(Tuesdays 7:30-9:30 pm)
This class will provide a forum for more advanced Japanese conversation between students and instructor along with additional progressive kanji. Topics of conversation will be determined by the instructor, along with various reading assignments.
Students at this level can continue to re-take this class as class material will differ each term.
