About the Event
Come join members and friends to virtually celebrate Tanabata (Star Festival). Tanabata is observed on July 7, and as the date approaches, long, narrow strips of color paper known as tanzaku are hung from bamboo branches. Before tanzaku are hung, they are inscribed with a wish. Ms. Asami Iba will give a brief presentation on the history of Tanabata, including the folktale of Orihime and Hikoboshi. All attendees will be requested in advance to write a wish on a color paper strip and present their wish live on Zoom! This event is open to all individuals and families. Please feel free to join even if you don’t have a wish to share.
About the Speaker
Asami Iba is a Cultural Exchange Facilitator for Grassroots Exchange Network-Japan (Gen-J) Program. The purpose of GEN-J (Grassroots Exchange Network – Japan) is to deepen understanding about Japan and Japanese-language on the grassroots level in Southern and Midwestern states which have limited opportunities of cultural exchange with Japan.
