JCC In Praise of “Ma”
July 22 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join the Japanese Culture Center and Arts Foundation in a 3 part series exploring 3 monosyllabic concepts of Japanese art and aesthetics.
Part 1: Ma/間: space, interval, pause
July 22nd @ 7:00pm
Each abstract concept is explored in dialogue through a myriad of Japanese arts between Omar Francis, of the Urasenke school of tea ceremony, and Saira Chambers of the Japanese Culture Center and Arts Foundation. Join us in conversation and unpack these critical concepts in Japanese art, design, and aesthetics!
Notes from Omar Francis, “It has been said that a deep knowledge of one subject can lead to insight into many other things. Since much of human activity is connected by a web of ideas, influences, and common origins, I believe this to be true. As a longtime student of Chanoyu, (the Japanese Tea Ceremony), I have been delighted to see this in action. Please join us as we explore some of the cultural, artistic, and spiritual concepts to see how they influence and connect so much of Japanese art and culture.”
Each event can be attended a la carte, but is best built upon by attending future Mu 無, and Wa 和 programs respectively.
