Q & A

Q. Which level of classes should I take?

A. For specific information, please refer to “class levels”. New class topics are introduced each term, so that continuing students are constantly learning new things.

Q. Can I change classes after registering?

A. It’s possible to change class levels if there is space available and the teacher agrees that it is a suitable level for you. However, because we keep our classes small, we adjust the class content to the level of the students.

Q. What kind of texts are used in a class?

A. Currently, there is no one text used in class, however the teachers draw from a variety of sources and provide handouts for each class. When appropriate, teachers may suggest texts for the student to purchase.

Q. Are there any assignments in once a week classes?

A. Most of the time, you will have assignments which may be to review something covered in class or prepare something for the next class. Depending on the level, homework may include vocabulary and grammar exercises, as well as preparing topics for presentation and conversation. If you don’t feel there is enough homework, your teacher can give you more assignments like writing essays or a journal about your daily life.

Q. Can the teachers speak Japanese?

A. The current teachers don’t speak Japanese, but they teach in clear and easy English. Even if you are at the beginner level, you should not have any difficulty understanding the class.

Q. Can I try to attend a class before registering?

A. We apologize, but in order to avoid disrupting our small-size classes, we do not allow anyone to attend on a trial basis.

Q. How many times are the classes held in a year?

A. Five times. We hold a summer, fall and winter term, and divide the spring into two terms.

Q. In case I miss several classes in a row, can I still easily catch up with the class?

A. The topic in each class is different, so you don’t have to worry about getting behind in class because of absences. Whenever you have any questions, your teachers are always happy to answer them. Teachers will also give you handouts for classes you missed.

Q. Can I get a refund for the classes I missed?

A. The class fees are to be paid in advance before the beginning of the term, and we do not provide any refunds for these fees. We will make an effort to accommodate those who know in advance they will be absent or encounter special circumstances. However we recommend attending as many classes as possible. If space allows, we will accept registrations after the term has started, and in such cases, the class fees are pro rated accordingly.

Q. Can I make a request for specific topics in a class?

A. We create class topics based on the students’ interests, so please feel free to share your ideas with the teacher. You can also call our office if you are nervous about speaking in English. Our staff will relay your preferences to your teacher.
